Operation Potty Training

We just got back from our camping trip today, we had a great time and I've got lots of catching up to do with the blog and pictures, but something else is taking precedent right now.

The kids are snuggled into bed right now but before they went, they each picked their pair of underwear that they are going to put on tomorrow morning. We are going with the "rip off the band aid" approach and putting all 3 in straight undies (except for sleeping).

I've got 36 pairs of gitchies and gotchies as the kids call them. That works out to 12 each so I am hoping that they will get us through day 1.

I may be totally out to lunch, but we'll see.

I also have lots of smarties, rags, laundry detergent and drinks (for Daniel and I) ready for tomorrow too.

Bike Gang

The kids got an early birthday gift from us and Grandma and Grandpa Reiter...BIKES!!!

I wasn't sure what to get for them but after talking to a few people who recommended the balance bikes, we decided on these Striders. And the cool part was that we could order green, blue and pink! They have no peddles, the kids just push themselves along with their feet and then once they get good at using them, they can lift their feet up and coast along. It is supposed to great for kids to learn how to balance themselves on 2 wheels and therefore they should be able to go straight to a two-wheeler without training wheels.





Maggie wasn't too sure about hers at first and wanted to ride the orange motorcycle, but she eventually settled into her bike.

We are heading out today for our first camping trip of their year. We told the kids last week that we would go camping on Monday and that first day we told them they asked about every 10 minutes if we were going camping now. Here's hoping for good weather!!

Father's Day

We had a really good start to Father's Day, but it turned quite "crappy" as I will explain later.

First the good part - a friend had told me that Black's Photography was doing free Father's Day pictures so we went a few days before and got one done.

Daniel's other gift was a pair of Saxx underwear that are supposed to be very comfortable. Casey thinks it's hilarious to wear either Daniel's underwear or my bras (all clean I proimise) on his head. And then of course wearing the gifts bags on your head is also a fun and usual thing around here too.





Later in the morning we hung out in the backyard and the kids played in the sandbox that Daniel just finished making for them. In the afternoon I went out to get groceries and when I walked in the door Daniel said, "You have to come see this". I told him that I wanted to bring in a few more bags first but he said, "No, come see this". I had a good idea of what I was going to walk into, however my guess was that Mitchell had done it.

I had the right idea but the wrong child. This is what I walked in to see...




She was probably thinking, "Finally mommy is going to stop taking pictures and get me cleaned up!"

Self Serve

That's how the kids have been eating around here the last few days. Well, not all the time but I guess when they've felt the need they've just helped themselves.

It started the other day with the boys digging into the cookies. I was at work at the time but I guess Daniel was getting Maggie dressed in the bedroom and he came out to find Casey and Mitchell chowing down on cookies at 8:00am. They had gotten the container from the counter, opened it and had settled into their spots on the couch while they ate their cookies. The interesting thing is that they didn't fight over who was holding the container (Casey) because they knew they were guilty!

The next day I again was changing Maggie and I heard the boys giggling. I came out to the kitchen where they were both standing perfectly still in the middle of the kitchen. My mistake was that I let them know I was coming when I asked, "What are you boys doing?". I went back to the bedroom for a minute and came out to find this...

...they had opened a loaf of bread and were going to town! As soon as they heard me there they shoved as much of their piece as they could into their mouths. It was so funny!



If you notice Maggie's foot on the drawer pull, this is how they get leverage and can get things that we "think" are out of their reach.

I shouldn't complain because they did go and get their brooms and try to clean up the mess.

Mitchell tore into his crib mattress the other day. On the bright side, he did put his sheet back on after he was done. Thank you Mitchell.


The boys have been getting along better the past few weeks. This obviously a great thing, however, this also now means that they are working together as a team, which is not always a good thing for us. Daniel and I are really starting to feel the children vs. parents ratio take it's toll - especially when it's just one of here at a time!

It seems like each day that we get closer to age 3, they become a little more defiant. They have never been perfect little angels but this is now either out right stare you down or run away from you defiance - over and over and over!!!

Carnival Fun

Friday night we took the kids to a community carnival that one of my friends from work told me about. It was so cool! There were bouncy houses, a petting zoo, pony rides, crafts, a playground, music, dancing and much more. The kids and Daniel fed the goats and donkey, they giggled everytime the animals tongue touched their hands.




We weren't sure whether the kids would want to ride on the ponies or be able to stay on, but they did great and they loved it!





The kids had ice cream after supper. It was so funny, the boys were licking it and eating nice and slowly.

Maggie absolutely stuffed her mouth each time it was her turn.

We`ll definitely be keeping our eyes open for more community association activities this summer!

Children's Festival

I was SO excited to take the kids to the Children's Festival this year - I pictured them having so much fun and enjoying all of the activities. And they did - but what I didn't consider was that I would have whiplash from constantly turning my head to see if all 3 of my children were still with me.

When we first got there it was fine, they stayed pretty close to me and it actually wasn't busy yet so it was okay for them to wander a little ways in front of me. But as the morning went on and more people filled the park, the crazier it got. Despite my occasional stern, but trying not to yell in public calling of their names to get them to come back to me, it was a good morning.

...watched a Sylvia Chave singing show. This was the Pizza Head song. The boys were right into things clapping along, but Maggie was more hesitant.

After a while I put their Elmo harnesses on which was better because I could at least know they weren't going to get away. The harnesses worked well except for the poor few people who we basically clotheslined.


We met our buddies Jen, Jordyn and Luke there which was great. The boys told me ahead of time that they were going to hold Jordyn's hand and Maggie said she was going to hold Luke's hand. They had it all figured out.



I am beginning to feel a little more "normal" in terms of the things that we can do with triplets as they are getting closer to being 3. However, this day was a reminder that some outings are still quite the undertaking. And I thought to myself after we left, "What if they were not in diapers anymore and I had to take ALL 3 OF THEM into one of the outhouses??" That's just another reason for me to procrastinate this potty training thing a little longer - the ease of peeing anywhere in diapers and also the fact that I am in total denial my babies are actually old enough to not be in diapers anymore!
